Gerald Chancie York, 84 of Bloomfield passed on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at home with his loving family by his side. Gerald, a brother, father and grandfather was born to Ewell and Beatrice York on August 13, 1936. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1955. After high school, Gerald served in the US Army from 1959-1961.

On July 23, 1961 he and JoAnn (Johnston) York were joined in marriage and remained married for 58 years. They made their home in Bloomfield where he worked for the Davis County Telephone Company, after his return from military service, until 1967; after which he joined the Northwestern Bell/US West Telephone Companies in Ottumwa.

Gerald was well known for his “Gerald C. York Trucking Company” in Bloomfield, which he operated from the time of his phone company retirement in 1999 up to May of 2020. Both Gerald and JoAnn enjoyed the many relationships they gained through their trucking business adventures.

Those left to cherish Gerald’s memory are his daughter, Linda York-Danielson, along with her husband, Kenny Danielson and their children, Erin Ruth and Ethan Olaf Danielson. Gerald’s surviving siblings are his older sisters, Donna Lanman and Joy Johnson, and younger brothers, Richard York and John York, along with nieces and nephews.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents Ewell and Beatrice York and his beautiful wife, JoAnn York.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Kenny Danielson officiating. No visitation is planned. A private family burial will follow the services on Saturday at the IOOF Cemetery. Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion will perform military rites.
