Roberta Mildred Sigman, 98, of Ottumwa died at 2:42 a.m. November 23, 2019 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.

She was born February 3, 1921 in Mahaska County to Orrin H. and Minnie Huffman Thompson. She married Donald L. “Gene” Sigman on July 25, 1958, and he preceded her in death on October 26, 2011.

She was raised in the Floris community and attended Salt Creek Country School in Davis County. A 1939 graduate of Eldon High School, she worked 20 years at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company and 10 years at Edd the Florist.

Roberta was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, P.E.O. Chapter G, Deeds of Kindness King’s Daughters and Telephone Pioneers.

She is survived by two brothers, Gary (Kay) Thompson of Ottumwa and LaVerne Thompson of Bloomfield, along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Charles, Elwood, Dennis and Harold Thompson.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at Reece Funeral Home with Bill Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.

Visitation began at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Plymouth Congregational Church or Hospice serving Davis and Wapello Counties.
