Sharon Ann Lorton, age 76 of Drakesville, passed away quietly at her home early Sunday morning, March 21, 2021. 

She was born near Lancaster, Mo. on June 28, 1944, the daughter of William and Willa Mae (Hufford) Howell. She graduated from Ottumwa High School.

She was married to and later divorced Gary Lee Lorton. Sharon and Gary had three children, Lesa, Larry and Lonnie. She was instrumental in starting the Head Start Program in Bloomfield and later worked at the care center.

She spent the past 30 years in Drakesville with her companion, Harlow Wilcox.

She is survived by her mother, Willa Mae of Ottumwa; three children, Lesa Knight of Ottumwa, Larry (Kim) Lorton of Indianola, and Lonnie (Juilie) Lorton of Galeton, Colo.; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; four sisters, Connie Crowder of Ottumwa, Dana Parrish of Ottumwa, Debbie Overturf of Missouri and Pam Harness of Indiana; and a brother, Randy Howell of Ottumwa.

She was preceded in death by her father, William; a brother, Larry William; and a sister, Patricia Monohon.

A private family gathering has been held.

For those wishing, memorials will go to a Bloomfield child care center.
