DeKraai

Draven DeKraai applies a tag to Wayne's R.C. Hicks during this steal attempt in the fifth inning of last week's non-conference game. The throw from Caden Hill arrived in plenty of time to help DeKraai get the putout on the play.

The Davis County baseball team carried their walk-off win over into Tuesday night with a huge offensive night against Wayne County. The Mustangs beat up on the Falcons 15-5 in a run-rule game. Clay Collier led the effort with three hits and five huge runs batted in during the win over the Falcons.

The Mustangs got the scoring started in the first inning. Four walks and two hits in the inning were enough to score four runs for Davis County. The Mustangs added three more runs in the bottom of the second to extend their lead to 7-0.

Caden Hill got the start on the mound for Davis County. He pitched into the third inning before being relieved by Owen Bennett. Bennett struggled to throw strikes and ended up walking four batters and only recording one out. The Falcons needed just two hits in the inning to score all five of their runs in the game.

Logan Hale relieved Bennett with one out in the third inning and finished the sixth inning game by giving up just two hits and no runs.

The struggles experienced by Davis County’s defense in the third inning didn’t matter.  The Mustangs rallied back and scored three runs in the bottom of the third. Hill, Draven DeKraai, and Collier all earned RBIs in the inning.

Collier picked up another hit and RBI in the fifth inning on a single to left field that scored Noah Zmolek. After five innings Davis County lead 11-5.

Going into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Mustangs needed just four runs to end the game early. Hill doubled with one out and the Mustangs loaded the bases on an error and a walk. DeKraai was hit by a pitch to bring in the first run of the inning. Bennett scored on a wild pitch, and Slayton scored on a bases loaded walk by Collier. Hale earned the walk-off RBI on another bases loaded walk.

The Mustangs improved to 2-1 in the season with a 15-5 victory over Wayne.
