The Lady Mustang tennis team opened the 2021 season on March 30 with a shutout victory over Fort Madison. The girls beat Fort Madison on the Bloodhounds home courts and dominated play on the courts all afternoon.
Bella Tranquilino faced Molly Knipe in the number one match and had no trouble beating Knipe in an 8-1 victory.
Avery Thompson and Morgan Klaus also scored easy wins in their singles matches as well. Thompson faced Malarie Ross and won with an 8-0 match score. Klaus also recorded a shutout victory over Rachel Hellman in the number three match with an 8-0 score as well.
Maddie Warning saw her first varsity action for Davis County in the number four match. Warning faced Kayla Kruse and gave up just two games in an 8-2 victory.
Jenna Marlow faced Camille Kruse in the number five match and struggled a bit. Kruse managed to win six games in the match, but Marlow outlasted Kruse for an 8-6 victory.
Jada Will completed the singles sweep in this meet. She faced Elizabeth Stuekerguergen and battled to an 8-3 win in that match.
In doubles action, Tranquilino and Thompson faced Knipe and Hellman in the number one doubles match. Tranquilino and Thompson continued their domination on the court, scoring an 8-0 win.
Klaus and Warning faced Ross and Camille Kruse in the second doubles match. Klaus and Warning scored an 8-2 win.
Marlow and Will secured an 8-2 win over Kayla Kruse and Stuekerguergen in the final doubles match. That victory secured the 9-0 team sweep in the season opening meet.
“Maddie Warning, Jenna Marlow and Jada Will each have played in their first varsity matches. Marlow trailed 5-2 in her match and rallied to get the win,” said Coach Brian Skaggs. “Tranquilino, Thompson and Klaus brought some experience. They set the tone for the night.”
