Madison Dunlavy looks to the umpire for a decision following a play at third base in last week's game against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. Despite making it a close play, the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont runner was able to make it back to the base safely.

The Lady Mustangs were back in action Monday night against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. Davis County suffered an 11-5 loss to the Rockets.

Both teams struggled early in the game as neither team could get something going offensively. E-B-F broke through against Madeline Barker in the third inning with two runs on four hits.

Barker got into trouble in the fifth inning and was relieved by Madison Dunlavy. Dunlavy and the rest of Davis County’s defense struggled against the E-B-F lineup as well. E-B-F scored five runs in the sixth inning on just two hits. Two walks and a couple errors on the Lady Mustangs helped them.

Davis County finally got something going offensively in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ashton Madden singled with one out and advanced to third on a wild pitch and a passed ball. Sophia Young brought her in with a single through the left side of the infield. After six innings Davis County trailed 9-1.

E-B-F added two more runs in the seventh inning on a two-run blast to left field off the bat of Faith Roberts.

The Lady Mustangs needed to score 10 runs in the bottom of the seventh to keep playing. Shelby Motykowski got things started with a double to deep right field. She was able to score the first run of the inning for Davis County on consecutive groundouts.

Dunlavy had to get the rally started again with two outs. She drew a walk and advanced to third on a single by Macy Hill. Back-to-back errors on the Rockets scored Dunlavy and loaded the bases for Young.

Young brought in Hill with a single to right field. Morgan Petefish delivered with a single to left field that scored Madden and left the bases loaded with two outs.

Motykowski came up for the second time in the inning with a chance to make it a two run game but she hit into a fielder’s choice to end the game. Davis County’s rally came up short as the game ended 11-5.
