The Mustang boys’ tennis team opened the 2021 season with a loss to Mount Pleasant on April 1. The Panthers beat Davis County 9-0 and dominated the courts all afternoon.
The Mustangs hit the courts with just two team members bringing any varsity experience back to the team in 2021. New Coach Joel Brus is working with the team to help them learn the game and improve as quickly as they can.
Clayton McFarland faced David Nguyen in the number one singles match. McFarland won two games but struggled in the 8-2 loss. Roman Combs faced Owen VanSickel in the number two match. He scored a win in one game but also lost his opening match 8-1.
Jackson Lee faced Levi Garber in his first-ever varsity tennis action. Lee suffered an 8-0 loss in that match. Dean Bragg faced Lincoln Henriksen and lost an 8-0 match.
Cayler Wuthrich had the best success of the day. Wuthrich scored three game wins against Brian Huynh in the number five singles match. Huynh still won the match 8-3.
Syrus Benge finished out the singles competition with an 8-0 loss to Jake Ensminger.
McFarland and Combs teamed up against Nguyen and Henriksen in the number one doubles match. They lost in straight sets by scores of 8-3 and 8-7.
Lee and Bragg faced VanSickle and Huynh in the number two match and lost 8-2. Benge and Wuthrich suffered an 8-3 loss to Garber and Ensminger in the final match of the day.
