Coach Jamie Cason and the Mustangs have been hard at work this past year preparing for the 2019-2020 season. The focus has been on shooting and much more. Leading the way for Davis County will be Caedyn Glosser, Carson Maeder, Dalton Reeves and Carson Zeitler. Second row: Ivan Garcia, Noah Zmolek, Riley Heller and Alex Lynch.

The Mustang basketball team has put a lot of work into preparations for the 2019-20 season and is hopeful that their dedication and work will provide some results this season on the courts.

The Mustangs have worked hard to improve their shooting and are working to develop a team chemistry that will help them on the court this season. The boys and Coach Jamie Cason are excited to get the season started and get some time on the court.

Cason is excited for his team to get going. “We have eight or nine that have a good feel for the game at this point. We also have players who now have three years experience at the varsity level. I am hoping the experience will pay off,” he said.

Cason returns six letter winners from last year’s squad that have a significant amount of playing time under their belts. Riley Heller is the only senior returner. He saw limited time a year ago and averaged one point per game.

Ivan Garcia, Carson Zeitler, Alex Lynch and Noah Zmolek are juniors who are back for another year. Garcia averaged 4.7 points per game a year ago. Zeitler averaged one point per game. Both are point guards. Lynch is a shooting guard who averaged 5.7 points per game last season Zmolek is a forward who averaged 4.3 points per game a year ago.

Dalton Reeves returns as a sophomore power forward who averaged 6.2 points per game a year ago.

Caedyn Glosser, Carson Maeder and Gavin McCall are all sophomores who will be looked upon for some important minutes on the court this season. Glosser returns as a shooting guard. Maeder is a power forward and McCall will play point guard again for the Mustangs.

“We weren’t a great shooting team last year. We have put a lot of focus in the off-season to be shot makers and not just shot takers,” said Cason.

“I believe we are at a place where we can compete at an even level with most of our conference foes. We will need some luck and strong chemistry to make it a special season. We have some quality guys that want to improve on last season’s success.

Albia, Centerville and Knoxville are three teams Cason says will battle for the conference title this season and should be the favorites. “They each return most of their guys from last year and they have some excellent basketball players. Knoxville has Kieren Nichols who will always give them a chance to win,” said Cason.

“We are very excited for the season. We have seen our kids bodies change in a positive way thanks to our strength and conditioning program. I really like this team and I believe we could have a solid year. We are counting on Riley Heller to be a good leader as we take on a challenging schedule,” concluded Cason.
