Morgan Petefish shot a 42 to lead the Lady Mustangs to a second-place finish at Centerville on April 27.
Centerville won the meet with a team score of 206. Davis County finished second with a 214 and Albia finished third with a 217.
Petefish earned medalist honors in the meet with her round of 42. It was the best round of golf Petefish has ever played. Aliana Moorman of Centerville finished as the runner-up medalist with a 46.
Along with Petefish’s round of 42, Davis County’s Ella Porter shot a round of 55. Elle Chickering shot a 57 and Scarlet Meyer finished with a round of 60. Chickering’s score of 57 was also a personal best for her.
Centerville won the meet shooting rounds of 46, 52, 54 and 54. Albia finished the meet with rounds of 49, 54, 55 and 59.
“Morgan Petefish shot a personal best 42 at Appanoose Country Club in Centerville on Tuesday. This was a great way for her to finish her last meet at this site,” said Coach Donna Copeland.
“Our previous low team score at Centerville was a 230 and we beat that score by 16 strokes. We finished only eight strokes behind Centerville. Centerville has dominated meets every time we have played against them this season, so finishing this close to them is like a win for us. We are eager to see what happens at Thursday’s meet on our home course,” said Copeland. “We were without Freshman Elexis Perry who had other school commitments.”
“The girls really played great. They knew there wasn’t any room for a bad night since Perry wasn’t there to help with scoring,” said Copeland. “All the girls agree they left one or two shots out on the course. There’s always room for improvement, but we are practicing hard and putting in the work needed for next week’s busy schedule.”
