Sophia Young makes an important catch in centerfield against Wayne last week. The catch resulted in the first out of the sixth inning and was scored as a sacrifice fly for the Falcons. Young got the ball back to the infield quickly to keep Wayne from scoring more runs.

The Lady Mustangs looked to rebound from a loss to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on June 3 with a non-conference game against Wayne the next day. Wayne scored early and added runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings to secure a 6-0 win over Davis County in non-conference play.

The Lady Falcons opened with a run in the first and could have scored more in the inning but Madeline Barker and Davis County’s defense held up under pressure.

Wayne put pressure on the Lady Mustangs’ pitching and defense all night. They had at least one runner in scoring position in every inning except the fifth inning.

Davis County’s pitchers, Barker and Sydney Henderson, walked a combined eight batters but showed some grit in the circle as they limited the Lady Falcons to just six runs in the game.

The Lady Mustangs had their chance to score in this game despite getting only four hits. Henderson and Ashton Madden got back-to-back hits with two outs in the second but were left stranded.

Maddy Lawson singled and stole second base in the fourth inning but was left stranded.

Davis County again had a runner in scoring position in the fifth inning. Madden collected her second hit of the night and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Madison Dunlavy. Madden moved up to third base on a groundout. Sophia Young was hit by a pitch with two outs to put runners on the corners, but that was it for the Lady Mustangs in the fifth.

The Lady Mustangs had a runner in scoring position in both the sixth and seventh innings but couldn’t get a run across home plate. They fell to Wayne 6-0.
